TRANSFER: Cristiano Ronaldo To Portsmouth?

Is Ronaldo Heading Back to England?

Newly promoted Portsmouth are preparing for life in the EFL League 1 for the upcoming season, but are they lining up a transfer to change everything?

Breaking news coming out of Hampshire this morning as EFL League 1’s Portsmouth F.C. look set to ramp up their summer spending with a move for Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese player has impressed in La Liga and has clearly done enough to catch the attention of newly promoted Pompey as they prepare to mount a challenge to continue the club’s recent push for glory.

Funding

Portsmouth are still the largest fan-owned football team in the UK and it is that team of owners who are laying out a radical plan to make this dream deal a reality. Following a meeting with the local council, the Pompey Supporters Trust have outlined plans to cancel Christmas in Portsmouth to fund the deal. The campaign would see every resident above the age of 16 in the area donate their Christmas budget into a Kickstarter campaign to get the Ronaldo deal over the line. With a new owner on the horizon it remains to be seen how this deal with link into the new setup for the club but sources suggest that the new boss is behind the move.

Trust Member Paul Pomp told Own Goal “If we get the green light to move on this project then Portsmouth will not be celebrating Christmas this year. We appreciate that it’s a lot to ask of our residents but the holidays will be back again next year like normal and we’ll be watching Cristiano banging in worldies for Pompey so it’s a sacrifice that we’re willing to take.”

Own Goal has crunched the numbers of the proposal and we can confirm that with a 75% majority vote would be enough to get the deal over the line. We expect Real Madrid to hold out for a fee of around £200 Million and that figure would be possible with the plan put into action.

The Player

Cristiano Ronaldo is a name that football fans may have heard before. The Portuguese forward has impressed his peers since arriving in Madrid in 2009, scoring a respectable 285 goals in 265 games. With a spell at Man Utd from 2003 to 2009, Portsmouth will be encouraged that the player has some experience playing the English game. Whether or not the player has what it takes to shine in the EFL League 1 remains to be seen but from what we’ve seen the player looks like he could impress in the famously difficult competition. It is thought that Ronaldo would be able to get his name straight onto the first team’s squad list and many fans that we spoke to feel that he could even break into the starting 11 with some small tweaks to his game.

With the rumour mill running at full capacity this summer, could it be a deal that gets done in January that steals the headlines? Fans and the club alike will no doubt be pulling every string available behind the scenes to ensure that the promising Portuguese forward is playing his football at Fratton Park for 2018.
