Could we be about to witness a shift in momentum in the EFL League 2? Own Goal sources have caught onto a potential change of scenery for Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.
EFL League 2 outfit Mansfield Town are stepping up their summer movement as they prepare to build and improve on a 12th place finish last season. Own Goal sources in Spain are reporting today that The Stags are lining up a sensational swoop for Real Madrid’s dynamic forward Karim Benzema. In one of the wackiest transfer windows in living memory, there seems to be something new every day this month that’s making us rub our eyes in disbelief and today it’s the turn of Mansfield to blow us out of the water.
There will be a meeting between the club and local council this weekend to discuss one of the terms of the deal which Benzema says he is not willing to budge on. The player has demanded that if the move is to go through, he wants to live in the Old Town Hall for the duration of his time in Mansfield. Representatives from the council are weighing up the request but a source told us that the local authorities feel that the positive impact on the local economy should a move go ahead is enough to allow the unusual request to be granted.
Mansfield have had an initial bid rejected but are expected to come back this week with an improved offer. Our Madrid correspondent tells Own Goal that the rejected deal was for £5 upfront in cash, a £10 Boots voucher, 3 tins of beans, a DVD player and a full set of the original 150 Pokemon cards. It is thought that an improved offer with included DVDs to watch and the additional rare Mew Pokemon card may be enough to get the deal over the line.
Local lad Robin Hood told Own Goal “This looks like a cracking bit of business by the club. I said it time and time again watching the lads play last year that we need a Benzema type player in the squad and it looks like John Radford and Steve Evans have put their heads together and came up with the goods this time.”
Mascot Sammy The Stag told Own Goal “Yes bruv, proper buzzing about Benzema innit. Manz got serious fire in his boots cuz. Man like Karim will be blowing shiz up in League 2 get me bruv. Gonna be sick with the boss man busting shots for Mansfield, it’s a big man ting. We’re keeping it tight, keeping it gangster like – Sammy out BANG BANG BANG”
Who Is Karim Benzema?
Karim Benzema has established himself as one of the deadliest finishers of the ball in world football since he arrived on the scene at Real Madrid in 2009 after impressing at Lyon where he climbed the ranks to the international stage. With a stunning 122 goals in 244 games for Los Blancos, Karim is a talent that needs no introduction to serious football fans.
Should Mansfield get this deal over the line it would be a huge show of intent as the squad gears up to improve on their 12th spot last season. Fans have been critical for a while that the team lacked real dynamite going forward but Benzema looks like a man that can bring something special to his potential new team and league.
