Grimsby Town Reps Fly To Spain Ahead Of Transfer

Grimsby Town have sent a delegation of representatives to Barcelona to discuss the future of Argentinian forward Lionel Messi.

EFL League 2 outfit Grimsby Town have reportedly sent a team to Spain to discuss the potential transfer of a promising Argentinian attacker. The 6-man delegation arrived in Barcelona this morning, planning to sit around a table with the representatives of both FC Barcelona and the player Lionel Messi later today. The forward, who we’d not heard of before this week looks like a promising talent that would be a welcome addition to the setup at Grimsby Town as they look to strengthen in the summer window. Meetings between owner John Fenty and manager Russell Slade have been a regular event in recent weeks as the club’s decision makers look to spark a new chapter in the club’s progression into the future.

Tapas Carnage

Own Goal sources in Barcelona have informed us that the meeting is on hold till tonight following a mishap in a tapas bar that got a little out hand. Waiter Jesus Lueno told us “It was only 10:30am and the Grimsby reps were already smashing back liters of San Miguel and throwing olives and cheese around my bar. Typical English tourists coming over here and making trouble. One of the reps swallowed a cocktail stick and needed medical attention and the oldest of the group urinated on our jukebox causing a small fire. This is a nice and peaceful bar and it was breakfast time on a Tuesday – what did we do to deserve this madness?”

Own Goal understands that the Grimsby delegation are sobering up at a hotel before commencing with talks later tonight.

The planned talks this evening will discuss personal terms with the player which are thought to include a generous £200 per week deal with add-ons including a £10 per goal bonus and Nandos vouchers for good behaviour and performances. The club are expected to ask for a fee in the region of £500 upfront with a further £250 in add-ons paid in monthly transactions over 8 years.

Argentinian talent Messi will be a new name to most but concerned fans should look at the forward’s record in Spain where he’s scored 349 goals in 382 games which is not a bad return really. Grimsby Town fans will no doubt be voicing concerns that the club is not doing enough to mount a serious promotion challenge and supporters today have generally been disappointed that the owners can’t attract the kind of players that they feel the team needs to succeed. Own Goal has looked into Messi’s team Barcelona and whilst they’re not exactly going to be threatening the EFL League 2 anytime soon, they do have some good players in their ranks.

Lionel Messi looks like a player with enough talent to make it work in the tough and demanding League 2 and if our sources are reliable you may get to see the man for yourself down at Blundell Park sooner rather than later.
