EXCLUSIVE: Coutinho Snubs Barca For Doncaster Rovers

Philippe Coutinho sensationally sticks a finger up to Barcelona to live out his dream of playing and living in Doncaster.

Liverpool’s little Brazilian magician has today stunned the football world by turning his back on a predicted move to Spain in favour for a move to Doncaster Rovers to realize his long-time dream of playing EFL League 1 football where what the player calls “real fans” are found.

Barcelona have made no secret of the fact that the La Liga giants see Coutinho as a long term part of their future, but the representative that travelled to the UK will no doubt be shocked to hear that Coutinho has his heart set on playing his football at the Keepmoat Stadium next season.

Coutinho’s team met with Doncaster Rovers’ chairman David Blunt last night for crunch talks about the player’s wishes to move to Yorkshire. Manager Darren Ferguson was seen diving out of a restaurant into the back of an Uber after apparently receiving a message that the Brazilian whizz was at the club’s training facility to discuss a deal. After 2 hours of behind the scenes talks – Coutinho emerged from the building alongside Donny Dog who gave a thumbs up to the on looking press and fans waiting outside.

Donny told Own Goal “The lad is a legend. He’s said he doesn’t want a penny to play for Donny and is even going to put up the money to give the stadium and training facilities a makeover. I don’t know what, how or why the guy’s fallen in love with Doncaster like this but I’ve not seen anyone this hyped up around here since Ed Miliband got the top job at Labour. It’s all a bit surreal to be honest”.

Philippe’s team have traveled back to Merseyside today with a meeting with Jurgen Klopp and the LFC big wigs due to happen later today. It is thought that Coutinho’s mind is made up and a formal transfer request is expected later today.

With the deal looking like a formality from here on in Rovers fans will be absolutely chuffed to have the technical genius running out in front of 15,000+ fans for the start of the new season that sees Doncaster move up to League 1 for a new challenge. Promotion may have only happened a couple of months ago but with this kind of recruitment on the cards, fans will already be thinking about pushing up into another promotion fight for the season ahead as a spot in the Championship becomes a realistic target.
